It's kind of sad to hear but there used to be a lot of colleges that advertised themselves as video game colleges but were actually scams. Essentially they would scam students out of cash just to get the money. The degrees were not related to the game industry and did not teach students how to actually make video games. People paid a lot of money and earned pretty useless degrees. Nowadays video game design is becoming more widely accepted as an actual profession and there are some credible colleges that offer degrees that will help you get into the game industry. Hilariously, a ‘game design’ degree is not one of them. To be successful in the game industry, you’re probably going to need a degree in art, computer programming, mathematics, communication, or marketing. Creating a game requires a combination of many different talents so if a college tries to promote a degree in game design you should take it as a warning. The term game design is too vague to describe what is needed to learn for a degree.
- Some Game Collages are scams and you should be aware of them
- getting a degree in game design is a red flag for anyone looking to get in the game industry
- You should probably work in one field for your degree
