Sensors are devices that record the physical attributes of the environment around them. There are many types of sensors, for example, light and sounds sensors. Without sensors, we wouldn't be able to accurately record features of our physical surroundings, like maps or anything underground. We would no longer be able to scientifically predict the weather, study new types of medicine or chemical reactions. Law enforcement officers use radar to detect the speed of vehicles. Medical professionals use a pulse-oximeter to sense the amount of oxygen in the blood. Students using the TI Sensor Tag can record data about the temperature of the room, the light in the room, the humidity, movement relative to the TI Sensor Tag, and sound. The data that is collected by sensors can always be put into a chart for analysis. For instance, a device that collects data related to temperature can be put into a line chart because of the constant changing temperature which has an infinite amount of data points. A pie chart is used to visualize percentages within a whole. For example, if a sensor was being used to track heart rates over twenty-four hours, a pie chart could compare when the heart rate was high, low, or average. A bar chart compares different categories of data. For example, a bar chart could be used to compare humidity in different locations. Measuring environmental data, like studying effect of certain chemicals on a disease can help cure the disease and save lives. Weather balloons which have a variety of sensors on them are used to predict weather and prepare people for severe weather. Seismographs are used to measure earthquakes which can help save people from natural disasters.

The balance between taking action against copyright infringement or not is an important thing I need to think about as a future developer. As a content designer, I think most people would want to protect their work and not feel like someone is using their content. Taking action against someone who has used your work is not always the best decision. If you want to do something, there are two options available to copyright holders. You can use Content ID or you can use a DMCA takedown. Content ID automatically finds copyright infringements and enforces a consequence, like making a video unavailable. A DMCA takedown allows developers to challenge copyright infringers in court. The reasons why these options cause problems for creators is the backlash consequence consequence these options can cause. For instance, the fanbase can turn on the creator and support the infringer. That person is likely either a fan or a reviewer and can cause negative attention and make the situation a lot worse.
This information is important to me because when I become a developer of any media I will need to be aware of the cause and effect of copyright law. I want to make a living creating game art and I want to protect my work. The easiest way to protect my work is to set up Content ID so that my artwork does not get stolen or used without permission. I think the current state of the copyright law is a good start, but it is far from perfect. It is a decent system but doesn't always work. From the creator's point of view, it gives them a lot of control of their work. An infringer can have big consequences like big fines and jail time. On the other side, creative work is meant to be shared. The more it's shared, the better for the developer. My opinion on piracy is that it is wrong. It devalues the work of the creator. It's important for people not to use pirated material and to respect the effort the creators put into making the art. In my daily life, I don't pirate material. If one of my friends was sharing games or music illegally, I would tell them about the problems they are creating for themselves and the developer. |
